    Definitive '67 gas tank color

Just purchased this tank. Oil sender unit identifies as a 1967. One of the sales pictures is shown below. Looks like a chip in the coating. Would appear to be bare metal, then a white primer and finally the undercoat like final paint. Am I wrong in this assumption? If I am correct, what should I use to clean off the top coat to see the true color? Soap and water, Simple Green. paint thinner, acetone? Color has probably darkened over the years but might give a pretty good estimate of color. Also thought that if I could strip off a piece of the paint might be able to micro slice to get original color. Any thoughts or suggestions.

the color you are seeing is pretty much it.... maybe a little darker than the photo shows would be correct ... see Brett's new book it shows a very good color picture of the early tank.Name: DSCN0992[1].jpg

Note: yoy can see that the sun exposé /time lightens the tank color not darken
the underside below the bung hole in the picture I am showing you would be the most representative, not the faded lighter color
