    Front number plate bracket position

    Hi All,
I need to fit the two vertical brackets onto my front bumper so that the car will have a front number plate.

Currently there are no holes in my bumper for these brackets.

Can anyone tell me how far apart these brackets should be so that I can drill the holes in the correct place?

    Thanks, Richard

Personally, I've always considered a front number plate to be somewhat discordant. If you must have one, may a suggest a low mounting position.

    What manner of plate?

    What manner of bracket?

    Which version of bumper?

    Where on the bumper??

Without those parameters, it's impossible for anyone to give you a measurement. My advice?? Mount your plate to your brackets, record measurements of the bracket mounting holes and transfer that measurement to your bumper where you intend to mount the plate..

Measure three times, drill once and use tape over your paint. Use a snap punch to mark the holes. Creates enough of a divot to keep the bit from wandering.

I live in CA and all cars are required to have a front and rear plate. I did not want to drill into the car so I elected to have a magnetic vinyl sign made. I'm not sure if it will pass if I'm pulled over, but as I see it the spirit of the law is to have the identifying numbers on both the front and rear of the car so it definitely checks that box. Here is a photo of my '73. The sign is above the badge because it sits more securely from that location. If you're interested in doing something similar I bought it at www.alphabetsigns.com. I customized the USDOT signs that they make.

If you have the factory mounting brackets, you could attach the plate to them. This would give you a good indication of where to mount.
