Price check: 72MY 911S Front Spoiler

    Hi,

What is the price range on a original 911S spoiler correct for 1972MY? Considering putting one on our 72T and wanted to get a sense of the price point.

    Thanks

Consider if it isn't perfect, that a body man is going to charge you 10 hours of stripping and then filling/sanding and adding a coat of primer. Mine welded a gusset in the center to better stiffen, if asked I would have declined, but he said that it is a weak point in the spoiler and they begin to look bent after many years/miles. Not sure what the new ones from Porsche cost, but it might be a wash to just buy new.

Also, you may want to specify if you need bumperettes or not as there are at least two kinds. I opted to do a clean look without the bumperettes.

    I paid 500.00 for a perfect one in ‘92’

Not my area of interest so others may know more. Also authenticity details may not matter if not car’s original factory fit part but they were originally made of fibreglass then changed to sheet steel chassis 9112300385 / 9112310231 — rough estimate this is after about three months into model year 72 so late(ish) in calendar 1971 build I suppose? Done to improve stability at higher speed. Steel version could optionally have overriders.

i have a fibreglass spoiler on my 72S, Nov 71 build.

Chassis 342 so just inside the change date envelope supporting steve's 'plastic to end of calendar year 71-ish' theory.

Had mine repaired by a guy in a nearby fishing port who does boats. Way cheaper than a garage.

just to reinforce some of the comments above - an aftermarket steel bumper will most likely require a decent amount of reworking to get a good fit to the car. I purchased an aftermarket steel bumper for ~$900 and my sheet metal guy ended up spending hours cutting/shaping it to fit as it should to the car - in particular the corner gaps. As is usually goes, it is often best to spend more up front on factory parts.

I have an OEM 911s steel front bumper at the restoration shop in Chatsworth that I am not going to use and will sell for a loss if you are interested. If you'd like to pm me with your email, I can send you some images. Given your location, we could do a local pickup which would avoid shipping.
