The red car in the foreground of the original photo may have been one of the safety cars at the 1969 Solituderennen at Hockenheim. Both have a white rectangle of some sort above the rear view mirror. The car being escorted looks like a Chevron B8. Roy Johnson drove a Chevron B8 BMW in the race held on 13 July 1969.

    „ Serienvorbereitungsphase
Serienbedingungen aufgebaut. „

    „Series preparation phase:
Two months in advance of the pre-series, the pre-series release vehicles (VFF) are built in the factory pilot halls with non-sample parts that come from series production tools. The VFF is intended to optimize production systems and processes and to check the fit and dimensional accuracy of the assemblies with the existing part quality. The production trial series (PVS, 6 months before SOP) and pilot series (0S, 3 months before SOP) are set up with the available series resources under production or series conditions.“
I only yet discover this thread and message but thank you

So a car that has been submitted to the homologation authority, right?

Do you know if it's possible to have access to the homologation records in Germany?
I know a car (not a 911, but a 928) described as such into the Porsche records and it would be fabulous to prove that it was effectively used to homologate the model.
