    Seat Upgrade 1971S

I am considering replacing the black Leatherette Sport Seats in my 1971 S. They are tired and worn and I think the best solution would be to just replace the seats rather than reupohlster.

I am looking for OEM type replacements. Does anyone have experience with vendors or suggestions that they are willing to share? TIA

Personally I would redo your originals as none of the aftermarkets will be quite the same. If you do decide to replace I heard decent things about these guys for a stock type sport seat.

I have the T85 Lemans seats as alternates to my comfort seats. They are good. Well built. Firmer than stock seats (sport or comfort) and relatively narrow. I'm a trim person and they are just right. My wife and another female friend find then snug at the hip, but fine for a hour or two at a time.

Your original sports seats are quite valuable and very desirable seats. In my opinion, you should find a shop to restore them and keep them with the car. Maybe spice things up with some pepita or fabric of your choice for the inserts in place of sweaty leatherette.

Searching around on this site will give you lots of ideas as seats are a popular topic here. Here are the seats in my 73S as an example.

I think you should restore the original seats, too. The sport seat is the coolest and very desirable.
Additionally, the 71S is the only early 911 that came with sport seats as standard equipment, according to knowledge gained on this site.
Just one more reason to keep them with the car.

What I think is important is not to go to any upholsterer but to go to one that knows his business.
If you have your seats redone with wrong materials you pay the work anthey are worth cores (the same as if they were not redone)
If they are done correct with the correct material it pays off as the seats increase in value.
That said you could also go for different seats and just store them in a dry dark rodent free place. But don't sell them as they belong to the car.

No question, I'd much rather have a pair of original sport seats restored by an expert than a pair of reproductions. Especially if the original seats were original to the car. And yes, Tony (Autobahn Interiors) is who I'd have do them. I've had seats he restored in my previous Porsche, and they were perfect.
