Thread: Chrome muffler tip for Dansk Muffler

Chrome muffler tip for Dansk Muffler

    Getting frustrated.

As we all know, the muffler outlet is slightly larger on a Dansk muffler than on an oem muffler and if you want to make an oem muffler tip fit, you need to do some slicing and dicing on the outlet to collapse it a little bit. But what if I don't want to do that? Does Dansk make a muffler tip to fit their own mufflers? I ordered one of their tips and it's sized for the Porsche oem muffler. You would think that Dansk would make a tip to fit their own mufflers???? Am I wrong?

    No, you're not wrong....

I found that the outlet pipe on the Dansk mufflers varied quite a bit in diameter. I imagine they had a certain "spec" for the outlet pipes and then they had the tips made to fit that spec. Unfortunately then the outlet pipes went out of spec (imho) during production and the tips they made for their own outlet size no longer fit.... So, you'll just have to slice and dice....

Also note that there's a "bend" difference in the outlet pipes from oem Leistritz to Dansk. So on the Dansk tip, the "shorter" side (the fits to the inside of the bend) of the tip has to be shorter than an oem tip to "fit" correctly.

    So ridiculous.

Question, when you were making the correct, square-edged muffler tips, I believe you made a version to fit Dansk mufflers. Can you remind me of the diameter?

I just went through this on my '70E restoration. I used a Dansk stainless muffler for the engine build. I found a really nice used square edge muffler tip but when I tried fitting it to my Dansk, I found that the Dansk outlet was too big in diameter and my tip was too small to fit over it. I used an exhaust pipe expander to stretch the muffler tip to it would fit over the Dansk outlet. I used a wood block and a big hammer to pound the tip over the muffler but it would not go on far enough and ended being stuck and sticking out too far. We ended up having to cut two lengthwise slots in the Dansk muffler outlet to remove the stuck tip and then using another decent used square edge tip over the slotted muffler outlet to get it to fit correctly.

I had this muffler tip in my stash that did have a larger ID and did fit the Dansk outlet but it did not have the square edge tip.

Why not buy a nice muffler from Porsche instead of the cheap Dansk ? An original tip will fit perfectly .

I have several but I also have a couple Dansks sitting on the shelf that I'd prefer to not throw away.

This is not necessarily an endorsement or ad for Suncoast Porsche, but I purchased mine for $849.95 with free shipping.
