    Opinion on early Recaro seats

My 68 came with two original recaro S seats that are black leatherette with black corduroy insert.
The covering is actually perfect with no tears or stains.
The foam isn’t bad but the support straps that support the foam are pretty much gone, as usual.

    Questions:

    1. Does the value of the seat go down if I were to recover it?

    2. Should I sell these and replace with replica seats in the pattern I want?

    3. What’s the value for a pair of seats like this in the condition described?

To make a founded statement to your questions, it would be very helpful to see some pictures of your seats.

Your seats have already been recovered as they are not in original trim for a '68. IN fact, they may later than '68 seats. Hard to tell from the one pic but, I think I see the fore/aft release on the side??

So, no the value of the seats won't go down if you recover unless it's a botched job.

Price to source new repros might be similar to the cost to trim the originals the way you want.

Do some homework first before jumping into the 'what are they worth' path. They appear factory, there's literally mountains of information to mine on the web.

I don’t believe they were recovered. I do believe they are not original
    To the car.

There’s a lot of info but much of it is dated, hence the asking of value.

For my own information, can you tell me how you know from this picture?

Not sure what you mean by that. It’s a side photo with reflection.
The seams line up perfectly on the underlying foam and are perfectly symmetrical. The original support straps are there but essentially rotted. The seats show no evidence of being recovered.

Does the fore/aft lever come out of the front left of the seat?

The headrests appear to have a bead like the bolsters, yeah? Either that or there is a seam that is not as was originally done. That is not correct for sure. The vinyl grain looks later to me. I can't tell if the cord is correct material or not but, the seams don't look right to me. Bolsters on 67-71 were perforated. 72/73 would have different style headrests and different vinyl grain.. Aftermarket Recaros had badges in the back rests.

So, a lot of clues just from the one grainy pic. Better pics including the webbing would be helpful.
