    VIN 13366 RHD prototype, 8th february 1965

    Dear all,

over at the collegues of the 912bbs showed up a highly interesting chassis,

    13 366, 8th february 1965

    which immediately caught my attention.

the official productionstart - SOP - of the 912 had been the 5th of april 1965.
There are two known 912 prototypes, both with a later chassis number

13 394 Brumos Collection Bert Flag
    13 415 „versuch“ 1st april 1965

the even more exiting part is:
the chassis is a RHD prepared version.

We had the story of vin 13 325
    https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...-10-26-10-1963

and further chapters & stories of AFN

Please do chime in either here of over at the 912bbs

There were at least 4 912 prototypes that were built earlier: 13328, 29, 30 & 52. The first 3 were almost certainly 1963, and the last one in late June 1964. There is also the great possibility there were others that we don't know of yet. I will ask to see what others are possible.

update from the owner as posted on the 912bbs:

"Hi guys, the investigation has moved on since I first posted way back in the summer. It now looks 100 percent certain that 13366 was the first RHD 912 and I believe the 3rd 912 (after 13330 and 13352, if the don't exist then it's the oldest 912 left.). I'm am still awaiting some more information and when it's back on the road Porsche will release its history. We know for the first 2 years of its life it was registered in Germany by Porsche but that's all we know. There are still so many questions about it eg what happened to it between Feb 1965 and 1967. 13364 and 13365 were 911's and both were sold in may 65 with a new vin number. Why didn't 13366 not get a new vin ? The investigation continues."

I am putting any questions I have in this thread.
I have been cleaning and restoring my dashboard switches today.

In between the steering column and the cigarette lighter I have a very odd socket, it looks like some sort of power socket.
Its very old, I suppose it could be original it looks right for that era but I can’t find any reference
    It is marked VM/DH2/1 GERMANY.
Any idea what it is ?

    Hi Guys,
Thanks to Haul I am going to put all my questions and updates on this thread so everything stays in the same thread.
(also makes it easier for me.)

My next big decision I have to make is the paint finish.

The colour has been a mystery.
    The paint plate specifies 6407
the Kardex says its POLO Red
When I purchased it in 79 it is was Guards red (according to the man I bought it from.)

Thanks to a comment from Robert Barrie we believe we know what has happened.
    Originally it was Signal Red.
However Porsche didn't sell it until 1967 and Signal red had been ceased, so they sprayed it Polo red sometime between 65 and 67.
I would like to restore the Signal Red finish if I can.

To prove this I sanded down one of the wings.
So in the image you can see grey orange red grey red grey red

Thanks to Moito I have the type of paint and confirmation the Orange base coat is normal.
And to Haul I have the recipe for Signal red and confirmation the Orange base coat is normal.

Working with the sprayer we will use a synthetic resin and nitro based paints and hopefully I will get a decent match using Hauls recipe.
We will add 2.0 to 2.4 white to Signal Red.
We will have to guess the orange layer but I think we can get it pretty close.

The Inside of the doors is the original Signal Red so I will use that to match the finish and colour.
So next step is to keep stripping the body and do some paint tests.

Has anyone any details on the Orange base coat ?

Just curious. Isn't signal red the same as today's guards red? Thanks.

356s had an accessory socket on the bottom of the dash that looked like yours.
