here is some photos of a 67(after e-coating)...original way of how it is done..i only removed the original factory lead because of potential rust issues under the lead.

on early(64) cars i could not find any traces of hard soldering--just spot welds and torch welds- but i would recomend doing it to avoid stress cracks.
early reutter shells where much more precise finished and not as lazy done as this 67 shows. but sill and q-panel never aligned perfect(from top view--photo#5 shows how much they where off)
    the last foto shows 300134

on the 911R they skipped the lead to save weight...

    Thanks Moito
Your explanation confirms what I am seeing, and what my body work guy Graham is telling me (he is not a Porsche specialist but he is becoming one. )
    The lead stays.

The Reuter body's comment intrigued me.
Having tighter tolerance's might explain why only the Porsche panels seem to fit this car properly.
And when we are working on it, Graham keeps telling me how good the body is and how close the tolerances of the original joints are, he says you can easily see any repair or modification.
I seem to have no choice but buy Porsche original panels. All the Dansk, J&P, Restoration design, etc parts are either poor quality, poor fit, or need modification.
I have had to buy all new wings, door skins and of course sills. We have also had to cut up OEM repair panels and patch the original body work because they just aren't the same.

fortunatly i`v had many empty 911/912 shells from the time when i broke them for spares+25 years ago solid 912 where dirt cheap...so for my restorations i could cut out entire sections from those donors..this is actually my prefered way of doing metal work. i never use dansk or RD panels...

    Name: RH Inner wing marked.jpg
Views: 91

This month we have been working on restoring the RH innerwing.
We are using repair panels keeping as much as possible original.

I notice some markings on the inner wing which intrigued me.
I saw the same maks on one of Moito pictures so they are normal.

Anyone know what they are ?
    Why they are there ?

Vents for LHD smuggler's box? Not sure if they were there on RHD production cars? Yours is special! Best, Robert
