    Had a February 1972 S a Steel or Alloy Engine Lid ?

I used an aluminium engine lid when restoring my 911 2.4 S but I‘m plagued with small dents the metal is so soft. If you’re not ultra careful closing it you’ve a new dent each time. One dent I just can’t get rid of is in the middle where the support inner panel is, it’s not possible to get at it. For this reason I’m considering replacing the lid with a steel one, does anyone know if my 2.4 S would have had a steel or alloy lid from the factory? The car was built in February 1972: and the VIN ends in xxxxxxx614.

I don't understand you very well ... but if the question is if the 911s had metal on the rear deck ... I would say yes. Also I write only here to congratulate you on the restoration of your car! I just saw the reenlist link and it has been a wonderful job!
my father's car is from January 1, the back cover is metal.

Could you tell me what you use the holes for?

By 614 you'd be steel not aluminum. I'll buy the Aluminum one if you want to get rid of it.

BTW, when you close an aluminum lid you put both hands to the bottom far sides of the lid. No dents.

Thanks. The early dents I caused, repaired, latter ones by others. I might go for a steel one so.

Im in Ireland, I’d imagine shipping might be difficult/ expensive to USA. Maybe I could fit it in my luggage when I visit the States in the fall. I’ll take some photos.

Gonbau, which Canary Island are you, I go often to Lanzarote. The hole in the wing is for an indicator light ( this became mandatory in UK and some other places in the 80s). that wing is not an early wing.Thank for your kind remarks, I mean was the rear engine lid made from metal ( Steel) or from Metal ( Aluminium).

Thanks for the info! I am in Tenerife! Tenerife does not have such incredible beaches as Lanzarote ... but it still has beautiful beaches
