Gray vs. black turn signal housing seals

I have black and gray ones for my rear turn signal housings on hand. The gray I just purchased from International Mercantile. The black one I've had on the shelf for a while, don't recall where I got it. What I take to be the originals on my 73 are gray. The original seals are spongy soft. The new ones, both gray and black, are considerably firmer and both are about equally firm. Aside from color, I don't see or feel a difference between gray and black. Is it just a matter of color, or am I not looking carefully enough?

Grey is the correct color and the ones from Int. Merc. are good but too long . I cut two 1/4" sections out and super glued them together . Kind of a pain , but where else can a person find grey ?
