    Carrera Tensioners

Hello! Could experts please advise if this is bad? When we installed our freshly and completely rebuilt Carrera tensioners; the left tensioner is fully extended but falls short about 1.5 to 2 mm to push against the underside of the idler arm which were also updated..the right side on the other hand is perfect. Finally, should we bother with installing the safety collars while we're at it? Thanks a lot!

Do you really have Porsche Carrera pressure fed tensioners ? Safety collars will not fit Carrera tensioners . Something is wrong on the left side .

Sorry, not pressure fed ones...I do know they are supposed to be 930 Carrera ones 930.105.501 OR (Engine is a 1968 2.0 litre). Thanks!

How old are the chains? Sounds like they may have stretched.

I have rebuilt tensioners and have had the shaft bind on the top seal. Measure exposed shaft and see if both sides are the same. Although looking at your picture of the left side it sure looks there is very little clearance to the housing from the chain wheel support

Thanks everyone and yes, timing chains need replacement.

I'm afraid the mechanical tensioners that were in there didn't do much for chain life.

I am replacing the chains with genuine Porsche ones with the master links. Does anyone have any worthwhile 'tips' whilst we're in there. Thanks in advance!

I got a chain link breaker tool from a motorcycle shop, much easier than trying to cut thru chain.
