I have been playing drums thanks to Charlie (and a certain Richard) since 1975.
A drummer friend of mine nicknames me Ringo Watts.
So tonight I'm a bit of an orphan.
When he was in Paris, Mr. Watts bought his costumes in the store where a friend of mine works.
This friend has told me many times how cool this man is and how he doesn't think he is a star.
Listen to his amazing drum performance on the track 2000 Man from the album Their Satanic Majesties Request
Charile Watts also made the sound of the Rolling Stones.

He had a great run (80), especially for his generation! RIP.

One of the (many) artists from my youth that inspired me to pick up the sticks at 10 years old and never put them down. Another legend lost.

    Family Man, too --- always faithful . . .

    . . . + hated touring

NOT your typical Rock Star . . .

'. . . in the mid-1980s, an intoxicated Jagger phoned Watts's hotel room in the middle of the night, asking, "Where's my drummer?" Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying: "Never call me your drummer again" . . .'

Not to speak ill of the dead, but be careful of making assumptions or believing someone's press.
