Just received the new issue. Terrific stories and photos. Loved the story on the “basic” 1970 911S and the Targa story. Really great issue.

I wasn't aware that there was a BundesGendarmerie in Austria. Thank you.

I wrote an article about the 1965 calendar year production and ongoing modifications throughout. It is mostly about 911s, but has a few 912 tidbits. Toward the end it defines the beginning of the 1966 model year, based on information supplied in a Porsche technical bulletin and the Porsche little spec. book. 912s are not specifically defined by this but from the date of July 26, 1965 and 902/1 five speed gearbox number 221 722, I picked some round-ish numbers from the production numbers of cars invoiced around this time:

    302 001 -- 911
    451 001 -- 912 Karmann
    350 701 -- 912 Porsche

Unfortunately, the article has a typo (my fault -- can't proof my own stuff and should know better) and states 359 701. The correct number is in the new Authenticity book. There is an accompanying rationale about why this all fits with prior Porsche historical data that is a little too long to include here.

Trying to save myself from countless emails and PMs...

And, of course, I didn't catch it in the magazine either.
