    Very interesting - I am guessing the specs may different if testing a 912/356 coil vs a 911?

    Don't know much about 912/356's sorry. However any ignition coil should have a similar configuration with a very low reading on the primary - around the 1 ohm mark or thereabouts, and a very high reading on the secondary - thousands of ohms.

    912/356/pre CDI 911 coil operates like a traditional coil.

    Coils for CDI cars are, in fact, step up transformers.

    You can use a CDI coil on early cars in a pinch but an early coil should not be used on CDI cars.

    You said 165 on the secondary, did you mean 165K?
