Nick Faure who won the British Production sports championship in 73 in the then new RS have me some tuition at goodwood not too long after I bought my car via him; this was before the track reopened for the Revival. Still got got letter about it — learned a few pointers about 911 driving from him. 54F75429-150D-4AE2-AC2D-1A04B80EA775.jpg
Nick used to borrow the RS back in the eighties when he raced with Steve O’Rourke manager of Pink Floyd. Quaintly whenever I see him Nick still refers to car by the private licence plate it wore at the time.
Nicks race partner O’Rourke has a memorial stone a just couple of feet away from the stone commemorating McLaren — not many honoured ithat way at Goodwood so a nice touch for a Gentlemen-racer. Photos of memorial stones taken yesterday in the small remembrance garden at goodwood track.

I recall that I picked up my 911 from the race team workshop that prepared O’Rourkes racers as Nick had it looked over before collection so I continued to use them for servicing the car for a number of years since they knew it well from when it was owned and looked after there. The place was more or less on road to Goodwood as was Nick’s place at that time. Drove past where I bought it yesterday — long replaced by houses. Presumably Pink Floyd album sales and tour success funded O’Rourke’s motor racing hobby just as it payed for Mason’s very well known 250. One occasion Nick Mason drove for the team at Le Mans alongside O’Rourke. Derek Bell and Eddie Jordan (that was before he moved to F1 team ownership). The former was released from a binding contact to race for this small private team when Porsche asked him to race for them them at Le Mans (at quite late notice). Turned out it was a year he went on to win — he confirmed the story of being released when I spoke to him when we once shared a table for lunch a few years back at RAC Woodcote Park.
