    Sagamore Resort….

My wife and I planned an east coast fall foliage trip months ago. We booked the Governors Room at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, NY the first few nights in Oct.

Unfortunately we had a family emergency arise where we thought we would be unable to make our planned trip. We also had rooms booked at the Mirror Lake Inn at Lake Placid and the Woodstock Inn at Woodstock, VT. So, in order not to be charged cancellation fees, we cancelled all our booked rooms.

As it worked out, we were able to work the emergency out in a manner that allowed us to take the trip. We immediately called back the establishments and re-booked the rooms we had at the originally booked prices - EXCEPT for the Sagamore Resort. They said that the room we had originally reserved was no longer available but they would be happy to give us a “like” room for 50% MORE than what we booked the original room for. I told them to forget it. I later went online and discovered that the room we had originally reserved WAS still available, but at the 50% increase. So, not only did they lie in telling us the room wasn’t available they were hoping to fleece us at a much higher price for a room that wasn’t quite as nice as we had originally booked. Mind you, the other two resorts were happy to accommodate us at our original rooms, dates and prices.

I did email them and expressed my concern over their lack of my perceived customer service. They DID eventually respond graciously extended the same offer in a ‘slightly’ different room. However, with time being of the essence, we booked another room elsewhere.

We’ll be taking our 50th Anniv Ed 991. Looking forward to seeing some beautiful country and hopefully some amazing colors.

My wife and I went there for our 25th anniversary in 2006, they had a amazing wine colection...
not in the same league as the Sagamore but very nice...
and they were very Porsche friendly...

Have you thought about the finger lakes also?

    Doug....

The Woodstock Inn is great. We witnessed the lightening storm of a lifetime there a few years back. Be sure to visit the Roosevelt house and Billings Dairy Farm. I love Vermont, my family is from Burlington.

    Have a great trip!

    Cheers,

Thanks Ron & John! I certainly appreciate the tips. We are very much looking forward to our time together and visiting areas of our beautiful country we haven’t seen, especially this time of year. We booked our replacement room at the Saranac Waterfront Hotel. Looks to be very nice.

Last update. I rec’d an email from Sagamore. They agreed to give us a handicapped version of the room we originally reserved at the price we had reserved it for previously. We’ll stay with our ‘new’ reservation at Saranac. Hey, at least we got some points of interest to check out here, so it wasn’t all bad!

It sounds like you've got it straightened out, but yes, I would have been mad too.
I'm very familiar with the areas you mention - I lived just across the river in NH until a few years ago. If you're not already planning on it, I'd stop by the Saratoga Auto Museum. They currently have a Porsche exhibit and depending on your timing you may be able to join their tour of Jim Taylor's Museum. Just east of Woodstock is Simon Pearce which was always a hit with out-of-town guests for glass blowing and food. If you get to NH, look out for leaf peeping traffic on the Kancamagus Hwy. It's part of a nice loop (take Bear Notch Rd to 302 to Bretton Woods and Mt. Washington) that was another crowd pleaser.

The crown jewels of that trip should be a stay at the Franconia Inn in Franconia NH then over to the Mt Washington Hotel at Bretton Woods. High altitude for NE and the best autumn mountain views often snow capped in Oct. I grew up in Franconia in the White Mts. so I may be biased.

Appreciate the comments and tips. Arrived at Mirror Lake yesterday. Drove up to Whiteface and hiked to the peak today. Colors are just starting to come up. This is the view from the “Cottage” restaurant at the Mirror Lake Inn. Very beautiful country. Unfortunately the pic doesn’t show the true colors.
