Dickie Stoop RHD 1965/66? 911 UK reg DAA911C info

    Hi folks

Doing some research and I found some images of a green RHD 911 owned by Dickie Stoop and registered in the number DAA 911C

Does anyone know any information about the car? I don’t seem to have it on my early ‘65 RHD list. It’s also not on the UK’s SORN list.

A period pic I have seen shows the boot up and the slanted 911 script … so ‘65/‘66

    Cheers !

later the car was owned for a long time by Nigel Carey who was the sport secretary of the PC Great Britain
your pic shows wider rims and race tyres(?) so I don't know how much the car was modified when Stoop had it
it looks more standard in the pic below
this is all I can find quickly
maybe someone in the PC Great Britain can help

I have this image of the car. Interestingly, he had other cars with registration YOU4, both 356 and a 67 911S. Look at the length of the antenna; is this normal?

It appears to have wide rear wheels, wider than 5 1/2" wheels.......maybe 904 or 906 sixes or sevens?

Richard ”Dickie” Stoop had various chain drive Fraser Nash, 356 Carreras, this very early 911 (he was one of the early customers), 911L sportomatic also the first owner of the dark green 904 GTS that is actually racing today at Goodwood revival in the Royal Automobile Club TT revival event on registration YOU4. Take a look at the coverage of today’s race it is one of the cars at back of the grid. He died of a heart attack during a race at the North Yorkshire Croft circuit during race in his Silver 911 S — that car was damaged as a result. Think that Silver S car was carrying YOU4 at time of his death in May 68. (The Beatles George Harrison’s Turbo 911 used to have plate YOU5)

Might have bunch of photos of on Stoops first 911 and various other of his cars including the 904 GTS new.

I also have the original British price list of the earliest 911 that dates from before Porsche Cars GB were founded in 1966. Clearly early as this paper has the Fraser Nash branding so is the one covering 65/66 period. A rarity probably belongs with an original RHD 65 car not on my shelf.

Flight Lieutenant Stoop was an RAF pilot and during WWII flew out of Westhampnet which is now the Goodwood circuit and airfield. He used to drive Frazer Nash around the perimeter which is presumably how he got connected to AFN ans Aldingtons*
Later he graduated to be military jet pilot in the Cold War era. He was a reasonably well known racer having class success at Le Mans. Family were at one time in the oil business— think ancestor was bought out by Shell, which maybe helped fund his racing hobby as seems to have had nice cars for someone of that rank.

*Coincidentally I just posted about Fraser Nash BMW connection on England thread.

Yes that silver S photo is following his heart attack and resultant crash at Croft

Iirc at some point Chris Maltin who was friends with the younger Aldington acquired that personalised YOU4 plate off the Silver S ( maybe he acquired the crashed car) — I suppose this would have been before Maltin was established as an official dealer in Henley on Thames area which wasn’t until around ‘74 although he did service and occasionally source some from his first premises at his fathers farm.

I have a bunch of photos of that 904 GTS when picked up brand new on export plates but this thread is not about that car or Stoop’s last S so just posting one so as to not stray too far frim the OP topic :

Incidentally the YOU4 plate was previously on one of Stoop’s 356 Carreras; the other of his Carrras had a different equally distinctive plate. Not aware of his first 911 having a social registration only seen it with the DAA911C. did his road car a BMW which saw sevice as tow car including trailering the 904 from Germany when picked up brand new.
