    Gas tank restoration

Any threads about gas tank restoration, or anyone in the LA or Ventura area doing this?
Also, Wurth coatings are getting hard to come by in California. Anyone know what product I can use on a '69 tank to get the proper texture and dark grey color?

Any radiator shop will do this, I used San Leandro Radiator. I bought a couple cans of Würth undercoating which they appreciated.

James, Can you post a picture. How does the Wurth undercoat look? I notice that the original coating looked more like it was a rubber coating. I found L&M Strippers in Van Nuys that will strip it clean for about $200. When I talked to them on the phone, I told him I had an old gas tank with a rubber coating and wanted it all taken off and he said "Oh, a 911?"
Local radiator shop told me he no longer had a hot tank. Seems that a lot of these shops we took for granted are fading away, too bad.

Bob, I had a small radiator shop in Oxnard clean and coat the inside of my 69 tank, and then I finished the outside myself with Wurth products. It came out very respectable. Stripping the outside was an exercise in patience but a lot of home restoration is.

OK, got my tank back from L&M Strippers. Here are a few pics. Came out very nice! $225. 14232 Aetna Street, Van Nuys, Ca.
He said he had stripped a few 911's for Singer, but they wanted him to do a LOT of cars, and he had to say no, because that would have locked out a lot of his regular customers. Bob B

Similar Bob, did L&M do anything to the inside of the tank?

rgupta, nothing inside the tank. It was very clean inside, just a little discoloration right at the lowest spot. He just told me to finish the outside and put it in a trash bag. I will put some Kroil or similar inside before I seal it up.
