And as for a thread about shoes? --- weeeeelllll . . . no. Not by me, anyway . . . little too 'life-style' for me

My every day beater - 12-year old Invicta Pro-Diver 9937. Can't call it a fake Submariner as it has "Invicta" all over it (even engraved deeply in the side of the case), so maybe call it a "tribute" just like all the fake RS out there. Swiss automatic movement, sapphire crystals (F & B), 200m WR. I treat it terribly badly, it never complains, and typically is accurate to 1-2 minutes a month.

Special occasion #1 - Rolex Oyster, circa 1971, hand wind, not automatic. Purchased new by my dad in 1972, for a bit more than $100. Very low key - plain steel, no date, no jewels, doesn't look much different than a Timex. Dad told his buddy Jake the local watchmaker that he was getting into the construction industry, and wanted a watch that would hold up under hard daily use (as he felt the watch below was too fragile for that). Jake told him he couldn't break the Rolex, and over the years that proved true. It's even been run over by a dump truck once. No picture right now, as it is out for servicing to return it to more regular use.

Special occasion #2 - Wyler Incabloc chronograph, circa 1955 or so. Hand wind, not automatic. Originally purchased by my dad new. Been worn and used to time laps at old racetracks all up and down the west coast throughout the 50s and 60s. Due for service soon.

I don’t know about “sizing a man up” by them. But quality shoes are VERY important for oneself.

I choose Tricker’s shoes because of their quality and timeless design.

Tricker’s are England’s oldest shoemaker based in Northamptonshire still family owned firm after nearly 200 years in the business.

Their long established shop is in Jermyn Street in St James, London. Production is still done in their Northamptonshire factory, a county where there is a long tradition of world class shoemaking.

My grandfather wore Tricker’s and he explained their quality to me and about having his own shoe last when I was a young man; in fact he bought me my first pair of Tricker’s.

I’ve various pairs but had the ones pictured for about four decades — ever since my feet stopped growing. As they claim their footwear should last a lifetime. This pair might. Still got the original sole, like the old Porsches entrusted to the right hands can give long service:

Some things are a world-class timeless classic for good reason.

I usually wear the four-decade’s old pair for the Goodwood Revival as it seems appropriate to give them an outing there.

I’ve introduced my son to Tricker’s but he has just one pair like many in early 20s he usually wears trainers even for work; he is adept at seeking out limited edition trainers. He has tried to explain the fascination of that but it is beyond me.

This watch is back. The most very basic watch Rolex made back in '71. Very reliable and accurate to a few seconds per day. Not terribly special if it weren't for the connection to my father.
