Can I assume this is for the glove box door and not the engine lid being its silver?

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

Odd. The part number shown on the packaging shows in my stuff as a deck lid emblem for '72-73 911E (black).

very few but some 911S cars did come with silver badge's on the engine lid. One comes to mind --Mark Waring's 70 or 71 911S in Olive Euro spec in Morgans book about 911's
