I grew up a fan of 356s. My first sighting of a 911 was in 1965 and I was appalled at the ugliness of that car. I thought Porsche had made a huge mistake in changing from a car with flowing curved lines to a POS line sided abomination. It took a while but I've changed my mind.

1972, 11 years old and attending Laguna Blanca school in Hope Ranch (Santa Barbara). Our English teacher, Dana White, had an Aubergine 911S Targa. Still remember the license plate: CT Yank. Made quite the impression on me as I love Targa’s to this day and have had several.

I spent my first year in a car seat placed in the footwell of a 914 before my mother came to her senses and bought a 2002. Thereafter, the memories of playing in my grandmother's 912 (which was my mothers before) are among the earliest memories. I always remembered the basket weave toolkit buried in the weird front-trunk, the basket weave dash and the glue lines that were visible even then, and the evil chrome hinges in the rear quarters that always pinched my fingers when I closed the windows. Most importantly, I will never forget the smell. All of which I am now reminded of every time I visit my garage. Admittedly it was a childhood of the "VWs," but enough of an impression that I could never escape. Touched on it in my build thread, which is due for an update...

it was the mid 70's we had just completed construction of a modern lake house for and young architect. the guy pulls up in a new lime green 911 targa. cool guy, cool house and cool car....i'll never forget!

My parents brought me home from the hospital after I was born in a 68 911 SRW Targa. My Dad also had a 56 Speedster at home. Dad was ahead of his time and I never stood a chance.

The year was 1971... We were heading down to LA to visit my cousins. At the time my brother and I were car spotting, to us, the more exhaust pipes, the faster the car. XKE's had 4!
We spent the week in my Aunt and Uncles library on a sofa bed, there were a bunch of trophies and pictures of her next to 911's. She was racing Porsches while my uncle was stationed in Germany!
My uncle asked if we wanted to see his Porsche, we said "you bet". He walked us into the garage where there was a brand new Orange 1971 911T targa. I instantly fell in love. He took us for a ride, and the rest is history.

In the summer of 1980 while traveling through Holland on a family car trip, I've never forgotten the sight of the Dutch police flying by in the fast lane in a 911 with the targa top off and the two bright orange helmets sticking above the roll bar.
