Thread: So, how do you acknowledge a compliment when driving your car?

  1. #1

So, how do you acknowledge a compliment when driving your car?

I get a fair bit of thumbs up, waves & other positive responses when I drive my car. I alternately smile & mouth "Thank you", wave back or flash a "Peace sign".

What sort of responses do you fellow early 911 drivers use?

    Paul,
It all depends if I'm being overtaken or not.
But most of us are probably similar to you.
"Thumbs up", "quick flash of the lights", "wave out the window" etc.
    ps
I have always admired that car of yours.

When i drove cross country with my wife in 09, she noticed that we received the S.N.O.D.R from other drivers or passers by in small towns, aka the Slow Nod Of Deep Respect. Our only response could be to return the favor, slowly.

    Thank you Mark,

"Thumbs up", "quick flash of the lights", "wave out the window" de-clutch and give a couple of quick engine revs...

Flashing (lights) since 1974. I was told by my betters it was "Porsche etiquette". My car was a beat down, nearly played out, color changed 1970 914 1.7 found on the back lot of a VW dealership. I was as proud of it as if it were a brand new 911-S. I could hardly contain my enthusiasm when another Porsche approached.

Just last week two biker guys on their Harley’s pulled up next to me at a red light. They gave me an enthusiastic “very nice ride man!” As soon as the light went green I got the heck outta there. Kidding... I gave them a shaka and a nod.

I also like to double tap the horn, if appropriate, when passing any early model Porsche, VW, Mercedes, or classic I like. One to make sure the horn is still working, and two, more importantly, I like the sound.

But be careful. In California, any unnecessary or non-emergency use of a horn is against the law. I know this because I was cited once.

There are still 2 or 3 houses for sale in Texas that haven't been bought by Californians. I'm just saying...

now that is funny (and true)

we just sold our house in SoCal and are looking to head somewhere out of CA -- likely AZ, but we have always liked Texas Hill Country outside of Austin, so it is on the list.

Bill- We just spent a long weekend in Sedona and really enjoyed it. It’s beautiful and I was surprised to see a decent inventory of homes for sale in the area. A couple we know retired there and love it.
