    Oil in new engine

I know this is a debatable topic. The engine on my car was rebuilt, started, run, dynoed and drained. What do folks suggest as the best oil to use after this? 15-50 synthetic?

Mobil 1 V-twin 20/50 motorcycle oil. Synthetic and has the right amount of ZDDP. Just make sure your rings are seated before adding synthetic to a new engine.

    Wow , a big topic , but these four are unanimous : Valvoline VR1 20/50 , Swepco 20/50 , Penngrade semi-synthetic 15/40 or 20 /50 and Driven GP1 15/40 or 20/50 .

Oil technology has moved on but the GB sole concessionaire’s press demonstrator 73 Carrera RS was delivered to road testers with an imperial gallon of Rotella HD (probaly SD SE) engine oil; iirc it was SAE 30 or 20 depending on season. Here is my vintage can

In 73 that was a regarded as a somewhat old school heavy duty straight commercial engine oil choice so probably more modern options available now from Porsche approved engine list.

Technology marches on, I switched to synthetic when Mobil came out with SHC, now known as Mobil 1 (15w-50).
Lots of other choices available now, but during the 45 years or so I've used it never had a problem.
Before that I used 30w Pennzoil or Kendall when they were from real Pennsylvania crude.

Been running Valvoline VR1 or Brad Penn (I think it's Penn Grade now) 20/50 for years. Plenty of zinc in either and never an issue with either.

For the last 3 driving seasons I've used Driven 20-50. Other than at idle my engine runs 70 plus pounds of oil pressure ALL the time. Even at 200 degrees. I might try the 15-40 next season. I've used Mobil V Twin and Brad Penn in the past.
I suspect there are a handful of good oils to choose from.

Valvoline VR1 is readily available here in CT and works well in our engines.
