    Paint code 438 ???

I am hoping someone can help me with the paint code for my 73 S, #438. It looks like a late 80's bronze type color. The paint tag is stamped 438-9-73. I can not find the code in any of my reference books. A mechanic I use said it is the same color as his 73 RS he sold years ago. Any help would be appreciated.

    Paint Code 438?

Did anyone ever give an answer on this?

Reminds me of that Manhattan-winner '73.5 T, from a few years back . . . and that was a Cadillac color?

    Lightbulb

Just got off the phone with the 3rd owner of the Manhattan award car. He said the car was originally a special order by Robert Wood (Wheel finishing) as a '64 Cadillac color, probably Palomino Metallic. The Porsche factory named it Grey Beige Metallic.

I was also told by the 3rd owner that when the factory did a special color, they 'always' did three cars the same to make it worth their while... (not sure about that.) He did say the factory put a color stamp on it, but doesn't remember what the number was....

    Perhaps more info to come....

That is a new code for my list. Would like to know the VIN of both of these cars. Interesting comment about painting 3 at once. I'd like to learn more.

I think it's a paint to sample car, probably in a colour from another manufacturer.
I once saw the paint tag of a 73 RS (#1376) that was paint-to sample in a period Fiat colour, and it was a code that wasn't on any reference, probably used only for this car. Please see http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...=orient+yellow

    Thumbs up

Just dug up an old 3 1/2 x 5 photo (excuse the bulletin board pin holes) I took of the Grey Beige Metallic '73T (Vin #9113102657) at the '92 Parade in San Diego.......... I don't think I've ever posted it before...... but who knows...

As of now I've known 4 of it's former owners... I have no idea who owns it now...

........ back in '92 it just blew me away....... My girlfriend at the time said "now that's a pretty color".......

Hi, Chuck. Reviving an old thread. Did we learn any more about that color on the Manhattan award winner? Just curious. It's very similar to a paint-to-sample color on my '75 911S. Do you know the current owner? If so, would love to make a connection.

After receiving the Porsche Technical Specifications sheet on my '75 911S Targa, it was confirmed to be a 99/Paint to Sample based on an Audi Achat Braun Metallic. The paint code on the plate is stamped 438. Here is what is behind the dash but the color under the topcoat is darker than this. I'm strongly considering a modern interpretation of that same color from a 2018 Audi R8. Here is the original color:
