Body shop / guy recommendations for 72 911

    Hi,
My 72 911 Targa is in need of extensive body work: suspension pan, right rear quarter panel, minor floor work etc. I have all the replacement panels as NOS Porsche originals, and I'm looking for a body shop / body guy to do this work.
Which shop do you guys recommend in Southern California?
I'm not looking for the high dollar VIP restoration shops (like CPR) but I definitely need someone who know what they're dealing with.
I'm in North San Diego County.
    Thank you for your recommendations!

    Hi,

Currently going through a restoration with a good amount of body/metal work. The bodyshop working on my 71T coupe is in Chatsworth, CA.

To me there are three tiers of Porsche ‘body shops’:

Tier 1 - Full restoration shop with in-house bodywork and paint capabilities
Tier 2 - Porsche exclusive bodyshop with a Celette bench
Tier 3 - Experienced German body shops (no Celette)

Are you looking for a shop with a Celette? You will also need to factor in timing. Most, if not all, in SoCal are booked about 1.5 to 2 years out.

    Best,
    Ravi

Carparc would fall under Tier 1.

Andy Elsener in Huntington Beach. He does great sheetmetal/body work (including work for Wilhoit) and Shane East in Orange for paint.

He has a custom table - no Celette. He has his own opinions on it. I saw him restoring Seinfeld’s leaf green targa when my car was there. He does great work although more known for 356’s. He has done a few cars that have gone to Bill Folmer for completion recently (although Richard’s shop may be one of the best for completion).

Oh and Ravi is correct - most shops will have lengthy waiting times.
