    Throttle Pedal/bell cranks etc - Help !

    ok, so far the car is winning the battle of the pedal. When I install all the linkages from the pedal to the MFI engine there is nominal response at the pedal.

    When I remove the main rod that comes from the pedal - where it connects at the transmission bell crank - there is plenty of nice movement in what the pedal and bell crank can do. So that all seems fine.
    The linkages at the engine seem to work fine as well when I just use my hand to push them
    But when I pull on the rod from the engine where it connects to the transmission its actually not that easy to get movement. It takes a fair bit of pull.
    The bell crank at the transmission will not move any further towards the engine with the rod from the engine attached
    The rod from the transmission to the engine is as short as it can go - its the original one that came with the car
    And then when its all connected up again there is only about a 1/3 movement act the pedal and its very stiff. So I am wondering if:

    1) I have the wrong bell crank at the transmission?
    2) Wrong bell crank at the engine?
    3) Something else?

    Could it also be that the angle of the engine bell crank (Yellow circle) is not correct? creating too much force needed?

    Another thought -

    When I pull on the rod from the engine where it connects to the transmission its actually not that easy to get movement. It takes a fair bit of pull.

    so perhaps the throttle levers at the intakes/throttle bar are too stiff due to newness or the spring?

    Also, here is a picture of a friends 1970 bell crank. The crank itself I think looks the same - But the arm attached to the engine is much more towards the rear of the car

    Have you lubed the ball joints? Have you adjusted the roller tension on the warm air flapper gizmo and lubed it? Your friend's bel crank looks correct.

    There is virtually no movement range at the bellcrank on #3 cylinder bellcrank. The pull rod from the trans can only pull in a straight line, so there is very little movement available since the bell crank arm is already part way back at rest. Disconnect the rod from the #3 bell crank to the cross bar. Set the #3 bell crank so that the forward most arm of the bell crank is VERTICAL . Now adjust linkage length from pedal to trans bell crank so that the bell crank arm with the pull rod on it is about horizontal to the ground when the tunnel rod is hooked up. Now the pull rod length must be able to snap on to the #3 bell crank while the arm remains vertical! Hopefully you have adjusted the pump arm length to 114 mm. NOW ADJUST the rod from cross bar to #3 bellcrank to just snap on without changing any bell crank angles.

    Here is a photo of mine before the engine was installed. The bell crank at the gearbox moved smoothly with little force and fully actuated the throttle butterflies.
