if 2008 had not happened i would totally agree with the short thingy.... rules , regulations agreements, culture, no more trading gangs on the floor to read the tape and exchange energy.
not to mention that Robet Rubin figured out how he could kite the market at the expense of the short seller and make big bucks for the treasury....
short sellers used to be admired as cleaver pirates
    now they get no respect

I, for one, wouldn't be shorting Lucid, Motor Trend's 2022 Car of the Year:

    Plus they are well financed:

The SPAC transaction provides Lucid with $4.4 billion, a sum it's likely to burn through in a couple of years. The company does not expect positive cash flows before 2025 and the prospectus notes it will need to raise additional funds through equity or debt. Jul 23, 2021

They also have a deep pocketed investor in the form of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund that has invested $1 billion into Lucid Motors.

yep.... lucid is a cool company .... but it was down today 18% because it is offering a convertible bond .... could have done much better if it was an actual convertible or even a roadster.....
my grand papay told me that companies that sell convertable bonds often get taken out by the debt holders .... (not always, and i doubt with this co.)

Convertible bonds/debentures are a subordinated form of debt that are convertible into common shares at a pre-established price. They rank behind the senior debt but ahead of the common equity. There is nothing inherent in the issuance of convertible bonds/debentures that foretells being taken out by the debt holders. However, it is true that in the event of a bankruptcy, convertible bonds/debentures rank behind other more senior debt.

Lucid probably issued convertible bonds for a whole host of reasons, foremost of which it probably made a larger offering possible, than had they issued straight common shares.

I don't get it. An EV conversion of your old car does exactly what? I'm all for going green where it make sense, but this does absolutely nothing and is probably a net negative. Think about it, somebody has to manufacture all those dirty batteries only for them to sit in your garage and degrade. It gets driven maybe 1-2K miles a year if you're lucky, so after 10 years you have a degraded battery that needs full replacement. So all that wasted energy and resources that went into producing the battery is exactly that, wasted. You'd be greener if you just left the car as is and drove it, then buy a usable daily that's EV.

The only time I can wrap my head around making an older sports car electric is when the drivetrain is either missing or hard to get running right. A friend has an 83 Ferrari Mondial that after spending $5000 working on it, still isn't running right. Another car I recently saw was a Lamborghini Japla recently that was sans running gear. Or maybe a Delorean.
But I can't see why you would do this to a Porsche. They aren't hard to work on, hard to get parts for, and once set up they run really well.

To me, electric vehicles are "soulless" ....they all sound the same.
    Not true with IC engines.
You can close your eyes and immediately tell the difference between a 4, 5, 6 or 8 cylinder engine.
There are so many nuances and complexities in the sounds of these IC engines.

We are old. The younger generations will have different expectations to what defines a sports car.

So true. Someday a next generation will think of the ICE as a primitive curiosity: loud, clumsy, inefficient, dirty and non-durable. As for me, I find myself becoming more and more GOML (get off my lawn) along with a growing dislike of technology.
