Ice & snow driving with Early 911 S

Notwithstanding the snow season is not really kicking off in Europe, I am trying to find nice country ice / snowy roads and take the best out of Biancaneve and I.

I do not use any special tires or setup ... just winter M+S Kleber Krisalp hp3 with LSD (I would not advise to drive in these conditions with open differential). The traction / weight distribution is pretty good even with mixed ice / snow. Salt is indeed your enemy, therefore after each trip I have my chassis / underbody professionally cleaned by a pro.

Here some pics of my trip today in the Ore Mountains, at the border between Germany and Czechia.

Looking fwd reading your winter stories.

Absolutely wonderful... wish I had the guts to do it with an early 911 and lived closer to the mountains. I'll confess to not really like the slightly oily smell of the heating though so prefer not to use it if possible. And I have a warm and comfortable 996 for the winter.

Hi Frederik, thanks for your comment. Well, the point is not to be comfy, on the contrary. It is the raw experience, a certain kind of illusion of being in another time, another world ... as Ferry Porsche correctly stated in an interview at Auto, Motor und Sport in April 1993: the fun is not caused by comfort, on the contrary ...

On the oil smell ... well, if you're not driving fast on the motorway you can dress with some pilot jacket and bonnet and keep the windows down ... so to enjoy the engine melody . Let's try and drive together in spring, then ... I spend some of my time in Belgium, not far away from you, I guess ...

Great photos and must be quite an experience. Do you spray wax on the underbody to protect from salt and grit? Curious to know how you protect it. Grazie

Hi, no ... it has still its old wax from factory ... apparently it still works well. What I do is that, after trips like that, I have it professionally cleaned in the underbody.
