    Turbo chain tensioner variations

I have two pairs of Turbo tensioners on hand. I want to rebuild and install one of the pairs. One has a better defined chamfer around the top rim. I believe that both are from Porsche, not aftermarket. One of each appears in the photo.

Can anyone offer advice about the difference or tell me which pair is the better to rebuild?

I always understood the chamfer to be the difference between factory and aftermarket. Originally the Porsche ones had the trademark stamped on to the round part the the axle goes thru. I think the trademark stamp was discontinued somewhere down the road.

I think that there are original Porsche ones without the chamfer. Of the three pairs I have on hand, the two with the trademark stamped on the round part where the axle goes through do not have the chamfer.

That’s my recollection, chamfer on the inside aftermarket, chamfer on the outside edge factory.

The triangle with the stylized "P" in it is the Porsche trademark. Looks like they are all Porsche parts.

Thank you for clarifying. That makes sense of what I see.

Pay attention to gled49 , the middle tensioner does not have the trademark at the hole for the indexing shaft and has a chamfer on the inside of the reservoir , so it is an aftermarket tensioner .

The casting appears to be a little different as well.

FWIW I bought a pair of factory tensioners from a Porsche dealer this week. No P in a triangle near the axle hole. So I guess that they've discontinued the practice.

They have to be smiling at Porsche with the price of these at $500-600 each. What Chinese counterfeiter wouldn’t want a go at them?
