Intro and sharing my small restoration business.

    Hi all,

Lurker of a few years, but this is my first post.

Younger guy with a deep passion for early Porsches and old crusty stuff in general. Years ago I was told "you gotta want it!"
So I found myself at Porsche events talking to the old timers, going to every PCA meet and swap I could find, taking it all in.

Being young and on a budget, my only way into this is buy rusty and repair. A few years ago I picked up a '71 914 and dove in.
Since then, my love for eliminating rust and seeing these cars come back to life has really grown. Recently found myself with a few more projects (including the world's worst LWB 912.)
I work in a similar field (fabrication) so it wasn't a stretch for me enjoy this.

3 cars and a solid amount of welding projects for neighbors and locals, I wanted to push this more and put it out there. Grow my skills, make parts, use this as a design outlet, etc.

The goal is to have 1 or 2 larger projects at a time, while accepting smaller rust jobs.
Maybe in the future, move towards doing it full time.
I've been very fortunate to be busy, and work appears to be lined up through fall with 2 or 3 more cars.

My shop is called Ducktail Classics.

My fiance and I made the website www.ducktailclassics.com
There you can find info, gallery and a webstore.

I’ve spent some time recently designing some merchandise, parts etc. Notably the Stainless R hinges, which I've used for my projects. More parts coming.

The slogan Backyard Porsche Repair is both accurate and an ode to a lot of us guys, making it happen with what we have.

    Oh!

P.S. I am excited to say I was approved as an Authorized Dealer for MOMO Heritage products + Prototipo Wheels
(Including the new 370mm!) My favorite wheel brand with rich history in Porsche Racing.

That's exciting and unexpected - makes me feel a little more legit.

Would love feedback on the site, or advice from anyone in this field.

P.P.S. For a state who's slogan is "Open for Business!" it's not very easy to open a business!

Also, for some fun longhood content here's a photo of my '69, the day I picked it up. Quite a challenge. Embarrassed, to say I was absolutely THRILLED to buy this. (it was basically free)

(I'm still happy, but a little more sobered up after the hours of grinding)

    Man, I'm envious of you.
I'm just too old to start an adventure like this.
You are doing great and you'll do well I'll wager.
Please post some of your projects as you go.
    Good luck!

Jared is absolutely saving my 912 and prepping it for a six conversion. I’m very happy with his work and I’m sure he wont have any trouble staying busy.
One thing I like about his small business is he is already successful at his day job. He doesn’t need my money to pay the bills. I have seen lack of income become the downfall of many small businesses so knowing he wont “disappear” at any moment is important to me.

Jared finished all my rust repair - there was a lot! Car went in for chemical dip and e-coat. Here’s of pic of him doing some lead work in the spots that Porsche originally filled with lead.
