So, for 1968. they had a shiny chrome stock, and a "frosted" stalk?

yes my early 68 911L came with shiny chrome stock. I have also seen this mirror on the 911R. The painted stock came later-- factory starting to cut corners. Next model year we lost the wind wings and in 1972 we lost the script on the lower dash and no more aluminum deck lids etc....

911 in 68 had chrome. I’ve never seen a 912 with a chrome stalk. Best thing about this mirror is it works nice and not some old dry plastic frame that has been in the sun too long. I can’t use it on my 67.
