    Shipping engine across the States

    Wanting to ship an engine from Florida to Los Angeles.

    Can anyone recommend a reliable door to door shipping service please?

    FedEx freight works well. Especially if you want liftgate service.

    We use these guys.

    They give you several options with all the major carriers, many of which are cheaper in some areas of the country, so the diversity really helps.

    Be very careful about how your engine is rated and crated. A shippers responsibility can go from almost zero to full value depending on how it's rated. A great deal of the cost to the consignor is taken up by insurance. This ain't my first rodeo.

    If anyone wants plans to build a surefire crate I wrote up an article years ago for the 356 Registry on how to do it. You would have to expand somewhat for a 911 motor but the principals are the same. Like Jim, also not my first rodeo. My crates aren't always pretty but they've gone around the world and never failed!
