73 911 Turn Signal Housing Finish

Does anyone know what was the original finish/paint on a US 1973 911 front and rear turn signal housings?

I was told the front housings are all silver and are metal. Are rears the same silver but have white paint over certain areas?

If anyone has pictures, would greatly appreciate what the original turn signals look like, front and rear.

Only the ROW rears had white paint areas.

fronts and rears had been solid metal and aluminium coated

Only the interiors were plated. The exteriors were left in bare pot metal. Even my NOS units don’t appear to have any external finish. One of the reasons why they corrode so badly.

    Dirk,

Is this true for all the LWB Manufacture Years or just MY73? I thought RoW rear light housing interior prior to MY72 were all silver plated?

Only 72 and later ROW housing had the white area, never the US ones.

    Thank you for this information.

Does anyone know if Porsche is selling correct housings again? I believe they had the plastic variations for several years, but not the metal.

Porsche Classic is currently not making the metal housings. There are a few reproduction metal signal housing out there. Most, if not all of them, are poorly designed and do not fit properly.

John Audette is selling repro metal signal housing which he claims are high quality and are close to factory housings. I have not seen them yet.

    Reproduction LWB Turn Signals

We recently added these to our catalog.

    Here's the spiel:

We're about as hard-core as it gets when it comes to original vs. reproduction parts. We restore original parts meticulously given our respect for them.

Well, enough is enough. We restore a lot of turn signal and tail lights sets for the LWB cars and we've sick and tired of rotten turn signal cores. The tail light cores are usually fine but the turn signals usually have through corrosion and other whammo's. When we search for better ones all we find are more rotten ones with extortionate prices.

    No more.

We did some research and testing and we're pleased to have found excellent new production housings that we judge to qualify as AC Best-in-Class™ parts. They are all metal and the details and craftsmanship are excellent. In my opinion they are higher quality than the pot metal originals. And it's difficult to identify them as non-original when mounted on the car. Battle over.

We're making them available in two configurations: bare housings or fully configured assemblies.

More information at the AC Shop.

    Cheers,
    John
