    Are piston squirters essential?

I'm going to be rebuilding my motor and not really going for any extreme performance (68 911T). Will only be doing some minor upgrades such as cams and overboring to about 81.

Keeping things relatively stock, do I really need to find somone in my area that can machine and install piston squirters? I'm not going to be racing this car and will really only be used for some nice drives in town and surrounding rural areas.

Would love to hear everyones opinions, of which i'm sure there will be a few..

Engine temperature is an area we are all concerned with. Essential?? We all know the early cars do run without the squirters, BUT I would not rebuild an early case without adding them and a few other case modifications. Not a lot of $$ and if you dont you will always wonder??. I would also be sure to send the case to someone very familiar with doing the modification. Your car your choice.

    Regards

A '68T definitely does not need squirters . Changing only the cams will not create a need for squirters , and is probably a waste of money without also changing the valve , intake port , exhaust port sizes and the compression ratio .

My early 2.2T does not have squirters and has never had a problem with heat, even in the Florida summers. When I had the machine work done for a rebuild, the builder, with lots of air cooled racing experience, said they were not necessary for my intended use, which is similar to yours.
