    1972 Frankfurt radio 8ohm+ speaker 4ohm resistance

    Hi all,

I bought a period correct Frankfurt mono radio from vintageblau and a speaker from Koenig Klassik Radio.
I’m about to have both installed in my car (1972 911T) but I noticed that Ingo at vintageblau left a note saying only to connect 8 ohm speakers to the radio.
The Koenig radio is a 4 ohm speaker. Will this cause any issues? I was lead to believe that the is correct for the year?

I'm a plumber not a electronic/stereo nerd but I was always of the belief that if you were to put lower ohm (impedance) speakers than what the amp/radio ohm rating is it will cause more current to be drawn , especially at Hi volume levels and may damage the amp.
    I did say
    Im a plumber though.

The plumber is correct. Over driving the final output stage is the concern.

Appreciate the fast reply. What did these cars come with from factory, and is there an 8 ohm speaker available that will fit in the dash?
I’ve only seen 4 ohm speakers for sale

EDIT: Okay reading more about this seems like there’s no way around it, I’ll need to find an 8ohm speaker. Any pointers much appreciated!

Will keep you posted. Car is going in tomorrow for welding for the radio bracket. Was hoping I could plug in the 4 ohm speaker but I guess that will come at another time

    Apparently sell 8ohm speakers.

The advice you read to preferably install only 8 Ohm speakers on and vintage amplifier is a good advice given the fact that a 4 Ohm speaker is a higher load for old power amplifiers.
4 ohms speaker requires more current to give same Sound Pressure Level if compared to an 8 ohm speaker and this results in much higher load on the amp that can lead to a failure.
You should find the 8 ohm speaker to be on the safe side and avoid damage to the radio amplifier stage, if in doubt always choose the speaker with higher sensitivity.
If you can't find 8 ohm speaker install your 4 ohm but remember to never pump up the volume
