Now in Florida, looking for Porsche connections here

    Hello,
I lived 58 years in California, and some 40 years of Porsche connections there.

I am now near Gainesville, Florida. (I came for family, and that has worked out well)
    I have 3 older cars, 356, 911 and 914 2.0.
Yet, I am completely unfamiliar with the area (the entire east coast scene)

Where are some Porsche restorers in the area? hobby or pro?
Where are there parts sellers, used or new? Are there swap meets? Are there any meet ups?

Where are any old repair shops that don't mind a visit? Any guys working out of their poll barn?

I work on my own cars, including tire install and balance, and paint, and metal work. And have always been happy to help others with their cars.
    Scott

    Current long term ownership: 63 Cab, 71 911, 74 914

An old friend of mine lives in Gainesville......Bob Bates.........he is a Porsche owner and has restored a number of cars. I`ve seen some of his cars on the auction website BringATrailer. Bob`s a retired dentist and is a perfectionist.......I don`t hav any contact info for him, but you should be able to locate him thru Porsche clubs or shops......good luck!

This is very helpful as I now spend winters in Boca. I am struggling what to do re cars as the traffic - and drivers - are really scary.

The 356 Group FOG (Florida Owners Group) is pretty active

    https://356fog.com/

Bruce Baker recently retired down there too, he's near Plant City I think, he would probably love some company.

I pulled a bunch of cars from a body shop in Gainesville, and the owner Bob is an old 356'er, even owned Speedster #1.

Sold out after 15 years, but never brought any cars down. My observations: If your on the coasts: traffic, stop lights, elderly drivers and strip malls.
Intense heat and humidity makes modern a/c a necessity. And then there are the tropical down bursts/white outs. and trucks that done slow down. Scary stuff. Interstate 95, 75 & 4 are high speed mash ups and rodeos. Sebring and Daytona are must see's as is the Rev Collection. If you trek into the center of the state, the roads open up.
But if you like curves and elevation changes , forget it
