    MacGyver repair

So today I was out for an early morning ride in the cool air and letting the motor just scream to the redline whenever I could. All of a sudden, the car cut out while running at 7300 rpm (where it had been for the previous 5 minutes or so). Coasted to a stop on a farm road and started to diagnose. Cranked fine, but wouldn't fire. Fortunately I had a voltmeter in the car because I'd been going through some tracing of intermittent starter issues earlier in the morning. Checked the CDI etc. All good. Removed a plug to check for spark. Oh yeah, how do you turn the car over and check spark by yourself? Open distributor cap. Oops, there's the culprit. Rotor shattered.

Now what? Called the wife, who wasn't home and I was 50 km away from the house and didn't have a spare rotor anyways. Walked down the road to the nearest farmhouse. Saw a early '70's Fiat in a shed. Promising....

Older gent in the drive shed gave me two tubes of JB Weld and some tie wraps. I put humpty dumpty back together again on the side of a gravel road and miracle of miracles, she started right up! Bless his heart. I think he was quite surprised that I got the car going from that stage.

That is the way to do it Ravi. Anything that works is good.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

A little bag of useful bits can be handy. My vintage Bosch branded bag is a good size for a few spare things. Any bag would do but this one seems apt for purpose given the slogan. Many of these bits and bobs are NoS items that I bought from garage in Ireland that prepared numerous Carrera RS for the Circuit of Ireland back in the 70s. They had been sitting in storage ever since. A rotor is among bits and pieces but was left in bottom of bag when I took the photo
