    Track training day

I did my first track training day last weekend in the Targa. Lots of fun and I learned a LOT. Including that this is probably not the best place you can take an early Targa to. But it performed well -- no overheating or any other problems -- and it's great to be able to take it a bit further than you would on a public road.

Afterwards my nice new set of CN36s looked like this:

Nice job. Early cars are fun on the track.

I have been Autocrossing and doing HPDE's in my 1973.5 Targa for 20 years with no ill effects. don't let your car being old keep you from taking it out.

I recently did a track day with PCA. My instructor drives a 2012 GT3. I let him do a session in my car. He was giggling like a school boy and was very pleased with how lively my mostly stock 911 was and it's overall handling. A lack of power on the straights was the only detriment. His biggest issue was that his arms got tired after about 5 laps due to the lack of power assist.

Hi Fredrik, that looks relaxed, without a helmet and the targa roof.
But your tires say that you moved the 911 "appropriately". That's how it is supposed to be!
    I'll see you in Spa
    Golden greetings

Thanks all! With all the faster watercooled cars around, I couldn't help but feel "undergunned" and think that the Targa is more suitable for trips and mountain passes, and you need something more serious (could also be early 911) for the track. I realize there is a slippery slope here -- you want more power, better brakes, more tire, etc.

My instructor also really liked my car and also complained about the "hard work" haha. I did get a chance to drive a 997.2 GT3 for a couple of laps, VERY easy to drive fast and feel confident in. Awesome brakes, power and precision, totally different ball game.

Hi Andreas, we did wear a helmet for the free driving session. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to Spa, it turns out it's a school holiday and we have other plans...

    Definitely!

Hi Uli, Maarten isn't going to join either. Hopefully next year! Maybe we can do a Switzerland trip -- really inspiring to see it revisited in the latest Curves magazine. Or the Grossglockner.

It sounds to me like your instructor was a Snowflake.
