    I did same as Gordon, I did have to machine the inside of th fan for the larger 85amp Valeo alternator, (new). I don't like being stranded with electrical problems. That why I got rid of my Jag.

    The ground wire to the engine from the alternator must also be in good shape. And --you probably know this-- but don't connect the brown wire from the engine harness to a new-style alternator with integrated regulator. These only need +, ground, and the blue control wire. Leave the W connector on the alternator empty.
