    29-Nov, 2023

    Quite a life . . .

'. . . Kissinger was a Jewish refugee who fled Nazi Germany with his family in 1938. In the United States, he excelled academically and graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College in 1950, where he studied under William Yandell Elliott. He earned his Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy at Harvard University in 1951 and 1954, respectively.

Kissinger played a prominent role in United States foreign policy between 1969 and 1977, pioneering the policy of détente with the Soviet Union, orchestrating an opening of relations with the People's Republic of China, engaging in what became known as shuttle diplomacy in the Middle East to end the Yom Kippur War, and negotiating the Paris Peace Accords, which ended American involvement in the Vietnam War. After leaving government, he formed Kissinger Associates, an international geopolitical consulting firm. Kissinger wrote over a dozen books on diplomatic history and international relations

Pretty much all of those things happened because people want to buy stuff but not pay the same as if the workers making it were paid the same as unionized workers in their home country ... and corporations made more profits so shareholders were happy to bleed domestic manufacturing to death (economically) whilst enjoying the dividends of their investments.

Not being political but capitalism is very short term and isn't that concerned about the long term consequences of its practices ... also I'm not suggesting there is an alternative ... but that's the reality of how globalization and capital markets work ... the notion of nation states has, to all intents and purposes, disappeared except in political terms.

Anyhow, that's my answer to your question! You can't really blame the Chinese for responding to the desires of consumers hungry for inexpensive goods ... maybe blame the incessant desire to consume for consumptions sake!

That's the beauty of our cars ... mine is 58 years old and still running ... made in Germany though!!!
