WTB: small piece of Basketweave material

    Hi,

Looking for a piece of Basketweave material to recover my radio plate. The car is a 1969 912 and I’m assuming it’s the original material across the dash except on the radio plate. The radio plate has a different pattern on it. I ordered a new roll of Basketweave that Sierra Madre sells and it’s just not close enough to the original stuff. Enough so that I think it would look worse than what is on there now. The original material has more grain to it and a little sheen. The new material is very flat with no sheen at all. I’ll try to post a few pictures. I’ve searched online and contacted Garry at ClassicFX, and Autos International so far. Garry is checking stock and I haven’t heard back from AI so I thought I would ask here.

More than happy to pay for a piece that is 8.5 inches across by 2.5 inches tall, if anyone has some old stock not being used.

    Regards,
    Dave, Minneapolis MN

Here’s what I have on there now -

Try coloring the new piece with SEM Landau Black. It comes in a can, and it can be found at auto parts stores.

Agreed on the poor match. Try to buy a door card of original basket weave that has been carved out for speaker holes. Should be $50-$100 (at most). Very easy to cut a strip out, and you’ll have some left over for the rest of your dash. Usually you can find some on the samba or Pelican from someone tarting up their car as a hotrod.

Is it the same as the toolbag material? I have a trashed toolbag which you may be able to clean and recover enough from for your job.

It's yours if you can use it.

You guys are great. I really appreciate all the help with this. This is our first vintage car, and we couldn’t be happier with it.

Bob I’ll send you a PM.
