    Oil Temperature Sensor Help Needed

    Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if there’s way to test the oil temperature sensor (sending unit) on my 1967 911S? My needle isn’t moving at all so I’m trying to figure out if the wiring is incorrect or if it’s just not sending a signal.

    Thanks!

Just aim an infra red temp sensor at the sender and see if the dash gauge reads the same.

The temp sensor changes resistance with temperature. Unplug the wire and check the sensor resistance with a cold engine. Then check with a hot engine. You can leave the wire connected, but then only check with the engine off! The resistance should change from hot to cold. if the sensor is working. To check resistance go from the wire connector to ground. My 1969 has 106 ohms cold. I did not check hot. If this sensor works then you are left with checking the connectors, the wire and gauge. You can check if the wire to the gauge is good by unplugging the wire from the gauge then checking resistance to ground- it should be the same resistance as the sensor
