    Carpet Recommendation Sought

I'm in the process of doing a restomod of a '70T. I have a well respected old school interior guy lined up for installing carpet, door cards, and headliner once it is done with paint.

I am looking for suggestions as to what would be good carpet to purchase as well as sources. The interior will be black. My upholsterer recommends ordering bulk yardage and then he'll install and do the edge treatment.

Any sage words of advice regarding the layout? The installer does high end hot rods but doesn't have a bunch of Porsches under his belt.

    Much appreciated! Dave

Just consider that there are many nuances to the carpet install, details and fit .
    I would suggest a kit from a respected source …..Tony @ Autobahn
Just finished 2 kits from Tony for a 71 coupe and 70 targa….
My installer is a well know Porsche interior shop and still needs proper trimming & sequence to accurately fit the components

There are enough details on fitting to get it right ……without introducing an inexperienced fabricator To the process.

Also suggest reading posts and photos specific to your car/year etc.

My first thought was “yikes” when I came across the word hot rod.

Tony at Autobahn or Autos International. Both do excellent work.
Some recommend Lakewell but I have no experience with them.

And don't let him do what most installers do who are used to carpeting your basic hot rod,,,,,tell them NOT to glue down tunnel and floor board carpet. They don't understand that you need access to those places for future maintenance.

For sure! He's not willing to Dynamat anything either because of adhesive.

I just had both of my cars re-carpeted. I have nothing but respect for the folks who do this successfully without decades of experience, but even with decades of experience, it is fiddly.

I'd also add that if doing a hot rod, the RS lightweight felt is very nice and looks very good if you are not installing the rear seats. Maybe call Tony and ask if he knows of an installer in your area that he'd recommend?

Thanks Rick. I am pulling the rear seats and will look into that felt. I'll give Tony a shout too. Much appreciated everyone. I'm anxiously awaiting for it to go to paint!
