Disappointing Auction results at Gooding and Bonhams

Gray 911 exceeded expectations at Bonhams and green 912 was spot on with premium included. Othe 911's seemed to show a softening of the market. Any other opinions or obsevations? '67 softwindow targa particularly disappointing. Caveat: Aga blue '67 original went for $300,000.00. Good price.

I think 300K USD for this survivor wasn‘t that good but perhaps i‘m wrong.

I saw the low estimate as the minimum if the car is really a strong first paint survivor all matching.

In fact the buyers premium to Gooding and Co would have bought it a few times over back then

I’d say it’s only about rarity. Collector market hates hard window targas, so it’s not targas. Now they like SWB 911s even though the LWB was a technical improvement, it’s rarity again. Plus older is always better for collectors, right?

Personally love LWB targas myself, so good for me, I guess…

And speaking of the love for rarity, the 72 T in Chartreuse (supposedly 1 of 10) fetched $252k...

Sports Purpose still strong with the Niederer car going for $570K + 10% in fees after auction when it only bid to $450k.

Starting with the longhoods in the 90's as I did, I feel like I'm living in an alternative universe. Is the dollar simply worthless?

It’s an alternate universe. I grew up near Woodside, CA. I just saw a (very nice) house listed there for $125M. Property taxes alone with all the bond measures would be around $150k per month.
When I was a kid, the airline pilots lived in Woodside.

I visited Bonhams, very nice selection of Porsche 356 and 911 models. The results could be down to the ages of the average bidder. Hagerty reported today seeing the majority of big $$$ sales being Radwood era cars being purchased by younger bidders. As example the youngest buyers ever for Ferrari F40 and F50 as well as cars like Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. Could be the long hood buyer is starting to age-out. Even Singer has moved on to emulating impact bumper cars.
