I believe 72 MY is the only year for black paint in the fender wells.
Correct me if my memory is not correct
1968 911L Coupe - Golden Green
1971 911S Coupe - Gemini Blue
1973 911S Targa - Signal Yellow
1974 914 2.3 - Sunflower Yellow

There is at least one thread here with really good pics of the unique ways black paint was applied in certain area's under the car in 1973.....i tried but could not find the thread. If memory serves me correctly there were pics of the 700 mile T car and I think Chuck M. posted some pics of the bottom of his car. If someone else is better at searching...please post a link
Thx
So wrong. 73 was the year of body color wheel wells. Black all others. I prefer blacked out wheel wells as it makes wheels look better. I'll post pics of factory original 20K original mile 73. I'm just too busy to reply to all these threads. Yes, there's threads from the good old days that show all of this.
72S, 72T now ST
Ok, I realize I sound like a grumpy old man after reading my response! Haha, 73 change was body color engine bay and wheel wells with a black strip under rockers.
72S, 72T now ST
As has been discussed on other threads....the working theory on why less and less black paint was applied under the car is......The accountants figured out not painting the inside of the fenders and or the inside of the engine compartment et al saved money
Hopefully someone finds the thread(s) with the pics. How the underbody black paint is applied in 1973 is unique
I've been searching for the threads but no luck...but I am crap at searching always seem to use the wrong phrase or words!!
