Thread: Recaro sport seats, early or later?

Recaro sport seats, early or later?

The previous owner of my 911 fitted a pair of additional seats, Recaro sports seats without headrests. These seats looks to have been redone in genuine leather. I'm not a seats expert and, as now I would like to have sport seats with headrests, I wonder if these seats are the early 67/68 edition without headrests or a later model with arrangement for the headrests (maybe deleted during reupholstering).
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks!

hi lorenzo, these are definitely later recaros. the swb recaros all had rails installed on the underside and an integrated adjustment lever on the front.

Thanks Uwe! So I should find arrangements to fit headrests.

hi lorenzo, you can certainly retrofit headrests - the mounts will be there. it depends on your personal taste if you do it. what year is your car? I date the year of your brackets to 1970 or 1971. I hope I could help. regards uwe

Hi Uwe, it is a 1973 2.7 RS, definitely needs headrests. I kept as it is for 26 years of my ownership, now it's time to change.

hi lorenzo, my opinion: with a 2.7 RS it is very important due to the immense value of the car that the 100% period-based parts are installed. So I would advise you to sell the installed seats including consoles and to install something original. but of course you can also simply retrofit headrests if you are on a low budget. regards uwe

I have the original standard seats of the car. The Recaro are an extra set, fitted by the previous owner. I want to keep the sports seats installed and will retrofit headrests. Thanks again!

original standard seats (i.e. neither sports seats nor buckets) in a 2.7 RS. hm hm hm... well, all the best to you and show me how it turned out... (you should use the d-shape because the cover is real leather)

    regards uwe
