    Early Vin numbers

Can any tell me if the Vin number of a 1968 911T, corresponds with the number on the A pillar tag and does it also match the number on the dash under the knee roll. Currently I have dash number and A pillar plate number matching, but I believe a front cut has been done, possibly ex track car, hence no iD number. Regards

Yes, the paint badge has the VIN and the production # on the lower dash frame is the same for 1968. The VIN stamped in the front trunk would be the same.

Pretty sure the A-pillar VIN tag did not start until MY69's produced in 1969 per new US regs. My MY69 produced in Oct 68 has no VIN tag on the A pillar.

I thought a 68 would definitely not have an A pillar tag. Experts will weigh in ...

The A-pillar paint tag (door opening) was already there in the 356.
But the paint tag did not always mention the vin. Eg for a model 1973 it only mentions the paint code , while eg for a model 67 it mentions vin and paint code.

I am not talking about the black vin tag near the windshield used in eg USA.

Torch, that was my first thought also, but then I realized the Paint tag was also on the A-pillar, and it does have the VIN until 1968. Only prototypes had a number beside the paint code in 1969. By 1970 there was nothing but the paint code.

See, I learn something everyday here. So the paint tag by the door strap / hinges had the vin on 356s and earlier cars ? I thought we were talking about the vin tag on the A-pillar between the windshield and the door frame:L. https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...Early-69-Coupe

My MY 1969, assembled in the first week of December, 1968 and destined for the US market, has a metal plaque riveted on the A pillar that is visible upon opening the driver's door. Although there is space for entering the chassis number, only the paint code appears. There is no plaque on the A pillar visible through the windshield that displays the VIN.
