    1969 911S Targa Tires

I'm looking for advice on what brand and size tire I should mount to my 6 x 15 deep Fuchs alloys. My 1969 911S is completely stock and restored. It is lower than stock height but not by much. Short of buying expensive 185 70 VR 15 originals, would the Goodyear Eagle VR 195 65 R15 be a good choice? The alloys are freshly restored so I don't want to make a mistake. Will there be a problem with the tire clearing the fender?

    Vredestein for '69 911

Frank - Please post a picture or two if you can. What is your source for the Vredestein tires? Are you referring to 185 70 15 or 195 65 15?

    Thanks!

Hi George I just put some Goodyear Eagle GT's 195/65/15 on my deep six's and have been very happy with them. Ed Mayo who is very knowledgeable on this subject suggested them to me. Also I found them at Tire Rack on sale for $85ea and had them shipped to my installer. Make sure who ever mounts your tires is familiar with balancing them on the older Fuchs or you will not be happy with any tire brand.

Ed Mayo, it appears that these tires are discontinued. Can you recommend others?

Eagle Sport tires are available at Priority Tire. I just purchased one and service was good. I am running the 195/65 15 on my 1969S coupe and there are no clearance issues. Speedo dead on also.

Vredesteins have a classic look but in my experience they lack grip in dry acceleration and braking. Grip in dry cornering is predictable, and if you follow the "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast" axiom, you won't be unhappy. I ran the Yokohama A008Ps for years, and loved them, and was sad when they became unavailable.

If you can afford it, I would go with the CN36s. How many miles per year do you drive? The tires might "time out" before you wear out the tread. I have not heard good things about the XWXs.

A008's are back and they are wonderful, still & again. But in 16" sizes suitable for SC's and such.

CN36's are the tire to have If your vehicle is completely "stock and restored"

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
