Seeking Original Seat Corduroy for a 71 911

Seeking Original Seat Corduroy for a 71 911

    Good Day,

A good friend recently acquired a beautifully original 1971 Irish Green 911T. The all original black (now faded tan) seat corduroy inserts are faded and worn but still present well. I am inquiring if anyone would have any similarly faded out black corduroy? The original owner replaced the driver seat bottom and we would like to replace with faded used original to match the rest of all original interior. Please let me know if you have any sources or old original spare that may be available.

    Thank you for any assistance.

    Andrew

    OG Corduroy

Interesting topic --- any photographs to share?

My vehicle also came with corduroy-centered seats . . .

    . . . but I suspect these may 've re-upholstered (long ago)

From photos that I've seen, the fading you're describing applies to a lot of Porsche's cloth upholstery --- something that might have less to do with the dyes that were used than the upholstery material itself

What kind of material is this 'original' corduroy? --- organic or synthetic?

It's easy to tell --- just take a tiny sample of the material and place over a small open flame. Organic material will simply ignite, while synthetic will melt and curl-up . . .

    . . . and welcome aboard!

I plan todo some experimentation with new fabric to try to accelerate the aging/fading process.

    OG Upholstery

    Hey, Andrew . . .

    . . . thanks for that pic

    Interesting . . . not-at-all what I was expecting

Here's a recent post with what was advertised as OG upholstery . . .
    https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...=1#post1133469

This color material is what I'm used to seeing --- and not just in old Porsches . . . a dull mousey gray/beige, looking more like sad old laundry . . .

. . . which is prolly why this stuff would be replaced, in the 1st place . . . = not exactly appetizing, eh?

Has anyone tried to contact Porsche --- regarding the car's original specification?

Anyway, if you can, try to find out if your upholstery material is organic or not

    Now . . .

. . . how 'bout some more details + pics of the rest of the car?

Oh my, those seats are really beautiful, so be careful what you do to them.
That leather looks really really good.
The most I would do is find the best dye in the world.
    And replace nothing.

    Current long term ownership: 63 Cab, 71 911, 74 914
